Why LinkedIn Recruiter finds it difficult to identify authentic contenders for job openings ?
As people grow up, they need to earn money for themselves or their families. In 2024, the traditional way of finding a job, which involves going from company to company to see if they are eligible for the job, is becoming outdated. Thanks to the internet and software development, we now have several ways to find jobs from the comfort of our own homes, based on our skills, knowledge, and eligibility.
Currently, there are plenty of websites and apps where you can create a profile and showcase your skills, education, qualifications, and more. However, there is one particular app that stands out due to its massive reach, downloads, and reputation, and that is “LinkedIn.”
As mentioned above, LinkedIn is a platform where people can create their profiles and search for their desired jobs. However, it has now become a platform for people to show off or “flex” on the internet. This means that people are showcasing their achievements, certificates, and more, often excessively. While it is not wrong to share these things since the purpose of the app is to help find a job, people are over-posting everything, whether it is truly helpful in finding a job or not.
For example, some individuals complete short online courses from various websites or platforms and then post about them on LinkedIn. They fill their profiles with numerous certificates and achievements, which can be discouraging for others who have fewer certificates or none at all but possess valuable knowledge and skills gained through longer, more comprehensive courses.
Human Nature
Linkedin Recruiters, who are responsible for hiring individuals for their respective companies, tend to give more preference to candidates with profiles filled with certificates and achievements. However, during the interview process, it becomes clear that some individuals only have certificates to show and lack the necessary skills. This manipulation by posting excessive certificates not only misleads recruiters but also affects others who have genuine skills and knowledge but fewer certificates or none at all.
So, why do so many people engage in this behaviour, even though they know they lack reasonable skills despite having these certificates?
This brings us to the requirements that companies have nowadays. They expect fresh graduates to possess the knowledge and skills of someone who has been working in their field for over 10 years. Companies now want employees who are knowledgeable in every aspect, so they do not have to spend money on training.
Lot of Success Stories
Another reason why LinkedIn has become a platform for flexing is the stories that people post on it. While the platform is primarily used for job searching, individuals also share their success stories, starting from scratch or achieving great things at a young age. These stories frustrate genuine users because there are millions of them, and every person seems to be posting their own story of success, achievement, wealth, and more. Additionally, individuals often promote their other social media accounts to gain followers and further showcase their achievements.
Instead of feeling motivated, many people end up feeling depressed after reading these stories. It creates a negative image in their minds, making them feel like losers who cannot achieve anything, especially when they see others achieving great things at a young age.
Conclusion
LinkedIn has now become a platform similar to QUORA and Reddit, filled with countless stories, news, advice, and high requirements that annoy many users. The purpose of the app is still achieving its goal to get people jobs and business partners but somehow so many people are trying to quit the platform because now every LinkedIn post is about success stories. The majority of users now even don’t want to look at the interface, they just check mails from the platform, apply for a job if they find it good, or just ignore it.
