NEWS AFFAIRS 7 : WHERE EVERY STORY HAS IT'S AFFAIR!
Firefighters fought a blaze in the hills east of San Jose on Monday afternoon. The San Jose Fire Department responded with a second alarm to the fire on Higuera Road. The fire involved outbuildings, not homes.
Sunita Singh, a nearby resident, said, “I saw black smoke at the back of my property, and I immediately evacuated and ran down.”
Firefighters reported that the fire burned a garage with several cars inside. One person was taken to the hospital. The fire was under control by 6:18 p.m.
With rising temperatures, training and collaboration between agencies are crucial. “Training and acclimating to the weather is key,” said Chelsea Burkett of Cal Fire.
Cal Fire Santa Clara covers regions including the South Bay, Alameda, and Contra Costa counties. Recently, crews have been busy with incidents like the 14,000-acre Corral Fire and a fire in Pittsburg.
Cal Fire is increasing its staffing this week. “Our response is based on current incidents and weather forecasts,” Burkett said.
