Introduction
Asia, a continent where half of the world’s population lives, has a population of almost 4.75 billion as of 2022. This accounts for about 60% of the world’s population. China and India alone are responsible for more than 2.8 billion people. With such a large population, there is obvious competition in every field, from small to big.
As the majority of Asian countries are developing nations with a less open culture, children in Asian countries feel pressure from every aspect of life, from going to school to getting a job or others. But this pressure intensifies when it meets with the ego of Asian parents. The extent of this ego is unknown, as Asian parents want their kids to be perfect throughout their lives.
Most parents follow their culture and religion in the most loyal way, but they also fear society the most. They worry about what people will say if their kids do something unconventional, like getting a funky haircut or other daily things. Many Asian parents have somehow harassed their children in some ways. In this article, we will try to cover some of these issues.
Asian parents do have ego problems, and this problem is visible among all people. If children are unable to fulfil their parent’s dreams, then parents show their true selves. All the problems arise since birth. Even before a child starts to talk, the majority of Asian parents decide their kids’ future and what they will become.
The restrictions imposed by Asian parents on their children can sometimes result in recklessness, anger, and stubbornness, leading to issues such as a staring problem, as discussed in the article ” 2024 Staring Problem : South Asia Countries (India , Pakistan , Bangladesh And Many More)“
Why do Asian parents decide their kids’ future?
Everyone can have different opinions on this matter, but it may be because they are scared of the competition in the country. However, that is not a valid point to declare. In many cases, it is found that this problem mostly affects people who fall under the lower to upper middle class and below it. Rich Asians can still live a comfortable life in the country itself or have the privilege of going abroad. But for those who fall under the middle line, they usually suffer throughout their lives, and this suffering continues through generations.
School Life
In school life, the majority of Asian people cannot accept if their children score less than 90% in exams. Even for some, 90% is not good enough. Students need to join many unnecessary tuitions for a long time. Parents don’t understand the concept of co-curricular activities. For them, these activities are just a waste of time, even if their child is good at something other than studies. For Asian parents, scoring excellent marks is the only thing that makes them proud.
Parents don’t see the talent inside their kids, whether it’s singing, dancing, or playing sports. The majority are not really supportive and never give gifts to their children. They never try to understand what their child is good at. These things don’t matter to them. For them, their child’s life is all about their image, which makes things worse.
Authoritarian Parenting Style
Asian parents play a lot of drama, especially Indian parents. In every heated talk, parents try to make it seem like it’s always the child’s mistake, even though it’s not. But their ego cannot let them say sorry in front of their child. The majority of parents tell their struggle stories in a fictional way, like how they used to walk to school, which was far away, how they worked after school, and how they did hard work.
No one is denying this, but the fact that they tell their stories a thousand times doesn’t justify their present mistakes. Most Asian kids don’t dare to question their parents about their decisions because it hurts their parents’ ego. And when their ego is hurt, it eventually turns into physical violence.
Abuse And Fear
Nowadays, children in Indian families are so scared that they don’t even share if any crime happens to them because of their parents’ past actions. The majority of parents in India easily trust random people’s words about their kids. Once they hear something about their kids from someone else, instead of understanding the whole situation, they become so angry that it results in tension, physical violence, and verbal abuse in families.
Conclusion
In Asia, the majority of parents feel hurt if their kids do not opt for “STEM” subjects. For them, if a child is not able to do “STEM” subjects, the child surely has a very low IQ. For Asian parents, their child should not drink, smoke, make relationships, or live alone, even if they are adults. They should always stay with their parents.
These are just a few examples of Asian parents’ ego problem. In reality, a child goes through a lot of things in Asia, and this applies to both girls and boys. It is hoped that as Asia’s population is projected to grow to 5.25 billion by 2055, more people will become educated and leave behind this toxic mentality of ego. They should let their kids do whatever they want as long as they are not doing anything potentially wrong.
