The USA has been in a tight position since the beginning of 2024, facing various simultaneous tensions both domestically and internationally. US intelligence has reported the possibility of a 9/11-like terrorist attack on the US soil. The potential risk is real and cannot be taken lightly as wars around the world escalate and the image of the US deteriorates. This situation provides a morale boost to radical thinkers planning a deadly attack on US citizens.
The potential for an attack on US soil is largely due to the Israel-Hamas war. This conflict has caused significant geopolitical shifts, dividing the world into two clear camps: those supporting Israel and those supporting Palestine. The situation has grown more complex since the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel, which led to the destruction of the Gaza Strip.
The US’s unlimited support for Israel is not well-received by many countries, including several Western nations. This conflict has increasingly been perceived as a Jews vs. Muslims war due to social media coverage and misinformation. The primary issue is that many around the world recognise Hamas as a terrorist organisation and do not recognise Palestine as a sovereign country, leaving no country able to stop Israel.
This has angered many Muslim-majority nations, technically more than 50, as well as several Western countries like Spain, France, and Turkey. The populations of these countries have raised significant anti-Semitic sentiments and emotions, unable to tolerate the American and British support for Israel. Protests in these nations, as well as in the US, commonly feature slogans like “Death to America,” “Death to Israel,” “Death to Jews,” and “Death to Christians.”
The recent visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu highlighted these issues. Protesters tried to humiliate Netanyahu by protesting in front of his hotel, the Watergate Hotel, even breaking in and spreading insects throughout the infrastructure. The hotel staff cleaned up before Netanyahu’s arrival.
Disturbing images from these protests include the removal and burning of the US flag at Union Station, replaced with the Palestinian flag. Protesters also vandalized the Columbus Fountain in Washington D.C. These visuals have shocked the world and provided a morale boost to many nefarious organisations regarding the current situation in the US.
Internal disturbances in the US are at their peak right now. The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump by Thomas Matthew Crooks was watched by the entire world, highlighting lapses in US Secret Service and intelligence security protocols. The investigation is ongoing, with several sources and rumours pointing fingers at the Secret Service and FBI, suggesting they were aware of the plot and potentially involved.
The current position of the US is very fragile. US politics looks shaky, with far-right and far-left ideologies failing to find common ground. The immigrant problem persists. Pro-Palestinian supporters are causing chaos, engaging in destructive rather than peaceful protests. Additionally, there are reports that the US will allow anyone to vote in the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election in November.
The Muslim world is particularly disturbed by the US’s actions. With the escalation in Gaza supported by the US, some radical followers might attempt to harm the US to showcase their support for their Muslim brothers and sisters. Israel has clearly warned and taken action against other Muslim countries that attempt to harm Israel and its citizens, with the recent attack on Yemen being witnessed by the entire world.
The destruction caused by Israel is also recognised by the International Court of Justice, which has issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This will prevent him from visiting some major countries. The International Criminal Court is also functioning to recognize Netanyahu as a criminal, which would be a significant blow for Israel, as ICC warrants are legal in many nations.
The US and Israel are aware of the proxy war being waged by Islamic countries like Iran. Many terrorist organizations funded by Iran, such as Hezbollah, are in constant attempts to harm the US and Israel. Iran’s relations with the Western world are at an all-time low. The recent death of Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has also caused outrage among non-Muslim populations. Israel and the US have stated openly that if these attacks continue, Iran should prepare for a major war, which could eventually turn into a global conflict or World War 3.
Tensions between the US and Russia, China, and North Korea are also at an all-time high. Information and cyber wars are already underway. The Russian-Ukraine war continues, and China’s aggression in the Pacific is very visible, as the US has defence ties with many Pacific nations. Japan is struggling between China and Russia, and Taiwan remains crucial for the US. Recently, US Fighter Jets Scrambled as Russian and Chinese Bombers Intercepted by NORAD in Alaska Air Defence Zone. The US is undoubtedly tense amid all this.
Despite these challenges, the US remains strong, with ties to NATO, the strongest military force in the world. Any attack on the US would be harmful not only to the nation that attacked but also to the rest of the world, as the global community is aware of why the US is considered a sole superpower.
The US’s security and image will be shaped by the election results. It is clear that Kamala Harris from the Democratic Party and Donald Trump from the Republican Party will face off in the upcoming presidential elections. As a former president, Donald Trump is known for his tough stance on US security and radical Islamist ideology followers. It will be interesting to see how Kamala Harris tackles geopolitical tensions, security, and maintains the status of the USA as the best nation in the world.
